Jake Dunning is a consultant physician and associate clinical professor in Infectious Diseases at the Royal Free Hospital, London, where he leads the UK’s principal high level isolation unit for viral haemorrhagic fevers. He is also Director of NHS England’s Contact High Consequence Infectious Disease (HCID) Network and helped set up the Airborne- and Contact-HCID Networks in England. He has managed cases of Ebola virus disease (EVD), Lassa fever and Congo Crimean Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) in the UK, and has worked in multiple Ebola Treatment Centres in Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Liberia. He ran clinical trials for two experimental treatments for EVD during the west Africa EVD epidemic, and continues research in emerging and high consequence infectious diseases at the Pandemic Sciences Institute at the University of Oxford. He’s worked on clinical, public health, and research aspects of mpox after diagnosing the first case in the UK in 2018, and previously Jake was Head of Emerging Infections and Zoonoses at Public Health England. He maintains an honorary role at the UK Health Security Agency, where he provides clinical advice on deliberate release of HCID and special pathogens. Jake also maintains a long-standing interest in respiratory viruses, following a PhD in the mechanisms of severe influenza in 2009/10, and he currently leads ecraid’s observational study of acute respiratory infections in Europe.

Åse Bengård Andersen, professor and senior consultant in Infectious Diseases at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen has been working with several aspects of mycobacterial infections from host-pathogen interaction in relation to vaccine development and diagnostics to molecular epidemiology, and recently tuberculosis (TB) in the undernourished and HIV co-infected. As a clinician, treatment of drug resistant TB and non-tuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) infections play an increasing role.

Steve Walker is Associate Professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and Consultant Dermatologist at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases (HTD) and Department of Dermatology, University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH).

Steve completed his undergraduate studies in Medicine at the University of Bristol in 1991 and gained the Diploma of the Royal College of Physicians in 1994. After working in Bermuda for six months he returned to the UK to train in dermatology. He worked in Glasgow and London, at the St. John’s Institute of Dermatology, before moving to Manchester. He completed specialist training in dermatology in Manchester in 2005, followed by a PhD in leprosy reactions conducted in Nepal, Bangladesh and Brazil supervised by Professor Diana Lockwood at the LSHTM.

Steve has extensive experience of dermatology in low- and middle-income settings. He is responsible for the Tropical Dermatology and Leprosy clinics at the HTD as well as undertaking general dermatology clinics at UCLH.

At LSHTM Steve’s research interests are leprosy reactions, skin Neglected Tropical Diseases, scabies outbreaks in residential care facilities and training methods for dermatology in resource-limited settings
